Part of becoming a physician is to really commit yourself to taking care of people. The whole idea of the Hippocratic oath is really a dedication to healing humanity .The concept of do no harm is very important. It covers everything as it relates to taking care of one’s patients.
To our knowledge we are told that Dr. Darroux was an excellent physician. He was committed to taking care of his medical district. He displayed compassion and empathy towards his patients.
The question that we now pose is where did Dr. Darroux go wrong? Of note Dr. Darroux was sent to Cuba to study medicine by the united workers party government.
Darroux decided he would leave the practice of medicine and become a member of the Dominica Labour Party. At that time there were already rumors of corruption in terms of the leader ship of that party. Many thought that Dr. Darroux would be a breath of fresh air to this party. It was said that he was not scared of Roosevelt Skerrit and that he could stand up to him.
Now reflecting back this seems so far from the truth. Dr Darroux got deep into the Labour Party. It is alleged that he was truly compromised during the visit to Malaysia. The doctor is seen in Malaysia grinning like a child in a candy store. It was quite disappointing to see the once good doctor receiving gifts from people who would later become indicted in prison for extortion and thievery. To this day we do not know what gifts Dr. Darroux and the others received while in Malaysia. What is of interest is the Al Jazeera story states that these officials from Dominica received gold bars worth US$15,000. In the pictures in Malaysia all the Dominican government officials including Dr. Darroux and Prime Minister are seen accepting gift bags.
Through the years there have been many cries to Dr. Darroux to do what was right. Many still believed in him and that he could be saved. But it seems that he had gotten in too deep with whatever was going on with Roosevelt Skerritt.
Now that this exposure of corruption in the government of Dominica has been done what does that mean for all those who went to Malaysia? Many are asking that doctor Darroux go back to practicing medicine. As of this writing ,the author firmly believes that the once good doctor should not go back to practicing medicine . His medical license should be taken away until a full investigation on DLP corruption is complete . His ethics and morality has been compromised and it is against what the practicing of good medicine.
