We remind you of our Breaking News Story published earlier today that in October 2017, Dowlin Alexander was charged and the sum of approximately EC$180,000.00 in various currencies (US, EUROS and Pounds Sterling) was confiscated by the State. Since then, the matter has been in Court for forfeiture hearing.
Before the matter came up for hearing in 2018, threats were made to the local Prosecutor who then abandoned the case. Since then, they have been searching for a Prosecutor to handle the matter and a Queens Counsel from Europe agreed to do the matter pro bono.
While we were preparing the earlier article, more information came to our newsroom.
We have been informed by close sources to the case that for the Queens Counsel to Prosecute the case, he would first have to be called to the Bar in the Commonwealth of Dominica. The Queens Counsel arrived in Dominica on Monday and was expected to be called to the Bar.
An SRO was prepared for Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit to sign, but he refused to sign jeapordizing the Forfeiture matter against Dowlin Alexander. Even though he refused to do so, the Queens Counsel attended court yesterday but could not be part of the Prosecution team and the matter was adjourned.
While the police officers who were assigned to provide security for the Queens Counsel were exiting the courtroom, the noticed a young woman with a cellphone taking photos of the Queens Counsel. They quickly took the phone away and saw the young woman with photos of the Queens Counsel. When they enquired as to the reason for taking the photos, she indicated that Dowlin had instructed her to do so, and instead of arresting the young lady and arresting Dowlin for trying to pervert the course of justice, the photos were deleted from her cellphone and she was allowed to leave.
Dominicans, what has our country become? Why is Skerrit refusing to sign the SRO in order for the forfeiture proceedings against Dowlin to continue? Is it that they are seeking for the matter to come to a successful end for Dowlin in order for thesefunds to be used in the Elections 2019 Campaign for the Dominica Labour Party?
