On November 21st, Peter Wickham released a poll that he conducted on behalf of Roosevelt and the Labor party. He gave a general assumption that Roosevelt will win the election because he claimed 28% of the voters polled on the ground did not answer his question on, they will vote for so he assumed based on past preference they will vote for Roosevelt’s Family Party.
Note that Wickham refused to go into constituency details. He just gave an overall assumption and his advice was based on leadership and popularity.
When asked about the detailed constituency data, Wickham refused to provide that. According to him, he was not authorized by his client (Roosevelt) to share it. We have to assume that if it was favorable to the client, they would shared it, and the reason for not sharing it is because it is not favorable to them. Alex’s poll proved that assumption.
However, one day following this release CAPA came out with their poll conducted in twelve constituencies La Plaine, Morne Jaune, Castle Bruce, Wesley, Roseau Valley, Roseau Central, Salybia, St. Joseph, Mahaut, Petite Savanne, Vielle Case and Marigot. that clearly showed UWP is winning by huge margins in eleven of them. Vielle Case, Roosevelt the incumbent Prime Minister is the only one leading on the labor party side. Interesting to note though, that his lead over Clemo is a slim 16 %. Nothing to find comfort in for Roosevelt.
We do not believe that Roosevelt’s Family Party can win the elections with the votes on the ground, neither does Wickham or Alex, but as a member of Roosevelt’s political organization, having been deeply involved for the past three election cycles Wickham knows how they can win it! OVERSEAS VOTERS! Wickham also knows that the machinery has been in place to down these voters like we have never seen overseas voters before.
Unfortunately, it appears that Roosevelt and his team of operatives have succeeded in playing Dominicans along, and they will have no choice but to go to the polls on December 6th again without the necessary reform that would avoid another calamity for Dominica.
It is clear that Roosevelt and his operatives know that even if they cannot WIN the elections the field remains wide open for them to steal it again.
Let’s look at the critical La Plaine constituency. UWP has an 8 point lead with 28% either undecided or will not vote, We are not sure how that 28% will go, but one thing we are sure of is that Roosevelt will bring enough and more diaspora votes in this constituency to offset whatever shortfalls he has there. It is a given! It is the diaspora votes stupid, and they are well on their way with their police protection already set up at Melville hall. They will be escorted to their various polling stations with their security, cast their votes, and go back to their destinations.
Where will you be Dominicans after all the diaspora votes are cast? That’s the question! Will election be on the 6th of December? That’s another question! What happens if and when after the massive diaspora turn out the Roosevelt family party steals the election again? Whose fault will that be? Certainly not the fault of the patriots who are risking their lives every day to ensure they get their electoral reform before elections. What will you tell them?
