Remember the Panama Papers ? Well this movie sheds some light on just that . It stars Meryl Streep as a victim of fraud . It features several other heavy Hollywood actors such as Gary Oldman, Antonio Banderas, Sharon Stone , David Schwimmer and Jeffrey Wright just to name a few .
The film is a tale about money laundering , fraud, shell companies and corruption. It ends
with the leaking of the Panama Papers and arrest of Mossack and Fonseca, and the shutdown of their firm.
The narration cautions that there are still many such companies in existence and the practice of money laundering and corruption through fake trusts and shell companies based in these tax havens are still widespread.
Soon after the movie was released Jürgen Mossack and Ramón Fonseca sued Netflix on attempting to block the film’s release. It was a defamation lawsuit . A Connecticut judge moved the case to California and it was quickly denied ,allowing the film to be released as planned.
This movie will make you understand a bit better the Panama Papers and what the likes of Skerrit and Nantan has been up to .
