OAS eventually gets an invite- What happened?

For over Two years now it seemed that Roosevelt Skerrit and his Foreign Minister has been at war with the OAS especially Luis Almagro . They claimed was biased in his position on the Venezuela issue involving Maduro.

Addressing the OAS’ General Assembly in Mexico she questioned the relevance of the organization and accused them of not meeting the needs of member states, especially vulnerable ones. She condemned the OAS for interfering with the sovereignty of member states and suggested that “The action of the OAS should uphold the principle of non-interference and respect for the sovereignty of nations at all times. “

Dominica as a strong supporter of Maduro had chastised the OAS in the strongest possible terms for blaming Maduro for the crisis in Venezuela. The Government of Dominica is also not happy for OAS position of Bolivia, they accuse Mr. Almagro of being part of a coup planned by the opposition after Organization of American States (OAS) released a report saying a disputed vote last month that sparked deadly protests should be annulled because of irregularities.

Two weeks ago, Francine was at the OAS to discuss her Government’s refusal to implement election reform in Dominica, again she accused the organization especially secretary Almagro Secretary-General, Luis Amalgro, as being “biased and having no regard for Governments of member states .”

She was upset over the fact that Amalgro tweeted, “The people of Dominica deserve democratic, fair, inclusive and transparent elections. Democracy is the best antidote against violence,”.

Francine explain to the mission that She the government is nonetheless committed to electoral reform and has been working towards its implementation since 2015. However, she said Tropical Storm Ericka and then Hurricane Maria prevented its speedy execution.

Deputy U.S. Permanent Representative Alexis F. Ludwig, in his response to Francine’s presentation to the OAS Permanent Council, referenced the joint OAS, CARICOM, and Commonwealth mission to Dominica by the last August and three areas of concern were identified for free, fair and transparent elections.

1) Removal of deceased persons and ineligible voters from the current electoral list; 2) Issuance of photo identification cards to electors to facilitate more accurate identification at the polls; and 3) Removal from the current electoral list of all diaspora voters who are ineligible to vote by virtue of being out of the country for more than five years.,”

He lamented that fact that the OAS observers were not invited to observe the elections in Dominica, and strongly suggested that they should be. Apparently it appeared that they the Government of Dominica had no intentions of invited the OAS, since Fancine informed them that they already had the reputable observes which they need.

Subsequent to Francine’s meeting with the OAS Mission, Roosevelt appeared in a broadcast on Telesur accusing the OAS of collaborating with the opposition to attempt a coup on his administration. What transpired between the time of Francine’s combative, accusatory and antagonistic presentation at the OAS, we don’t know, but it seems according to tweets from the OAS, they will be in Dominica to observe the elections.

They tweeted a picture with them meeting with members of the opposition in Dominica. The picture shows an intense session, with observers eyes tightly locked on Mr. Linton as he made his case to them. We hope that Francine and the labor party Government will not accuse them of being biased again for meeting with opposition members to hear their claims, and issues.
