Morality, principles and values could save Dominica

For fifteen years Roosevelt Skerrit has been the leader of what can safely be described as a corrupt rouge and lawless regime. Many argue that Roosevelt is a dictator, and the rest of his cabinet are just following their dictator leader.

A close look at their record in cabinet is proof positive that no one is Roosevet’s cabinet has a mind of their own. None of them have ever challenged or questioned him in anything, none have shown any concern for the fifteen years of scandals that Roosevelt’s regime has been plagued with. Instead they stand up in his defense no matter how egregious and or detrimental to the state. They have been defenders and enablers.

“Resignation from office is a critical ethical decision for individuals.” writes J. Patrick Dobel. “Resignation also remains one of the basic moral resources for individuals of integrity.” He states, and people of morals, ethics, principles and values will agree. Does that mean that the people around Roosevelt lack the integrity that guides their decisions to resign or not resign?

There was a time that people resigned on principle in Dominica when they cannot be part of or support something that goes against their moral values or principles. Notably is Arthie Martin who resigned from the cabinet of Rosie Douglas based on the whaling issue, as an anti whaling advocate Rosie’s position was contrary to what he stood for. Then we had the cause of Frederick Baron who was the only politician in history who crossed the floor from the ruling Government to opposition, which in essence is resigning from the Government.

There were many reasons for principled resignations from Roosevelt cabinet, but alas there was none! As Dobel advises “ The option to resign reinforces integrity, buttresses responsibility, supports accountability, and can provide leverage and boundary drawing. No one in Roosevelt’s past cabinets apparently met these standards. Some of them will continue in destructive and diabolical journey with him.

The house is now dissolved and the country is preparing for new elections, Roosevelt despite being drowning in unspeakable corruption and sexual scandals was able to convince the following people to run on this ticket:

Octavia Alfred
Catherine Daniel
Reginald Austrie
Edward Registe
Raybun Blackmore
Kent Edwards
Gregory Riviere
Gretta Roberts
Roselyn Paul
Kenneth Darroux
Ian Douglas
Melissa Skerrit
Joseph Issac
Cherika Lcokhart
Irvin Mc Intyre
Nicholls Esprit
Cozier Frederick
Adis King
Denise Charles
Fidel Grant

They all claim to be educated, christian people, but they do not mind following the most corrupt leader Dominica has seen, or ever will see and help him to cement a brutal dictatorship in Dominica. Are they aware of what they are doing? Do they care? What does their conscience tell them about what they are trying to do.

If they were not convinced of Roosevelt unspeakable corruption to the level where the people who were involved in negotiations with Roosevelt and his gang describes them as “Hungry Hyenas who are 90% for themselves and 10% for the country they should be now.

If they thought that the money Roosevelt was lavishly spending on his their campaigns, and the money he paid them to be candidates was his personal money, and they never questioned the source after watching the Aljazeera documentary they know by now where the money is coming from . Will they turn their heads the other way and pretend they did not see it, as have been done in the past fifteen years? Will they still say that there is no evidence, and continue with their crimes against the state?

These candidates if they have the integrity and the moral/ ethical values they can save Dominica from this morass that the country is in right now. If they love Dominica, and they care for Dominica’s future we appeal to them to invoke their individual conscience and withdraw their nomination to run on a Roosevelt Family Party. We ask you to put your country first. You can be heroes. Be heroes! Yes Morality, Ethics, Principles and values can save Dominica!
