Dominicans, we have a terrible illness in our land. This morning’s revelations have highlighted the ease at which corruption begins and what it eventually becomes. I AM DOMINICAN FIRST! I am Dominican before party or individual.
Based on what I have seen, we also have some unscrupulous attorneys in Dominica. Crooked lawyers, I truly believe are the orchestrators of what exists today in the name of corruption. Add a ready and willing politician or leader, and people willing to give a pass, and voila, we have corruption in the making. While Linton provided an explanation of the circumstances of his appearance in this documentary, I will still ask, what would or could have been the outcome had Al Jazeera not done this documentary?
The silver lining in all of this is that it has made Lennox Linton even more indebted to The ‘People’ to clean out this destructive practice. This episode has highlighted the incredible ease of Ambassador appointments and the ultimate dangers they pose to nations. Moreover, Linton must in every way, maintain transparency in government and we MUST demand laws and legislation that protect ‘The People’. In addition, he must be cautious and vigilant with his affiliations and signature.
It is now even more imperative, that WE have a change of administration to weed out this corruption that has suffocated the region and continues to destroy our Land. In the greater scheme of things, the Opposition’s feet must be held to the fire to enact serious legislation to protect the sovereignty of our land. Yes, it is incumbent on each of us to ensure that these practices are rooted out of our Young Democracy. Every leader and politician must be held accountable and provide its citizens with transparency on these issues. Before any of this can be done however, this DLP administration must be rooted out before that cleaning can begin!
Lastly, we have an opportunity to have a fresh start. We can now begin on the right foot knowing all we know, or continue the downward spiral of DLP Corruption and Dominica’s destruction. I AM DOMINICAN! Change is critical!
