Stooges and Patriots

By Josh Shaw
In the run-up to Dominica”s day of decision, 6th December 2019, the stooges of Roosevelt Skerrit are in overdrive. Their servile bleatings, hosannas to their idol doctor know no bounds. This moment teaches us that in the past 40 years of Independence our educators have done a poor job in imparting the most basic principles of civic education.

For that reason when government builds a bridge, a road or provides a scholarship, they are seen as a gifts from the personal pocket of Massa Skerrit. None of those under his cult-like spell seem to have an elementary understanding  that the role of government is to provide services to the community it serves. The government is the servant of the people, not vice versa.
Witness this exercise in civic education:
Stooge # 1 – The disgraced Trinidadian Judge said:
Skerrit build a bridge and all the jackass in the Diaspora living in America must pass under it.
The Patriot Answers:
The bridges built on Dominica came from government funds, loans or grants. None of those funds came from Skerrit’s bank account. They are not manna which fell from Skerrits pocket. When overseas based Dominicans criticize wrong on Dominica they are not jackasses. Indeed, they are true civic minded citizens when they criticize government misconduct, theft of state funds and victimization of those who do not support the regime. Under our constitution every citizen has the freedom of association and freedom of expression. No Dominican should be victimized where they refuse to jump about a stage or savanna and shout “Labour!” while garbed in a red hat and a red shirt.
Stooge # 2 – The half defrocked priest said,:
Skerrit was sent to us by God. If you criticize Skerrit you criticize God himself. Skerrit runs things in Dominica because that is what God wants.
The Patriot Answers:
The Bible warned against false Gods. It is contrary to Christian teaching, indeed blasphemy,  to worship any man or woman. We are all God’s children. All Dominicans are equal under law. No man is above the law. Skerrit was promoting lawlessness and broke the law when he went into election while a French citizen. Skerrit the idol said “no law or constitution can stop me from running for office.” Skerrit is in breach of the law where he lodged government money in offshore bank accounts instead of the treasury. Such breach of law is a crime and the police service is inept and corrupt  where it fails to investigate and prosecute those in high office who break our laws.
Stooge # 3 – The Unproductive Productivity Consultant said,:
Skerrit is the best leader ever on Dominica. He can outsmart those jealous people who critique him. They are haters, all of them.
The Patriot Answers:
No leader in the history of Dominica has had more money, and wasted it. El Supremo  had millions from Venezuela, millions from China and billions from passport sales. Yet he wasted it all on lavish election campaigns, coolout money to treat the electorate and electors, and to bribe distracted Dominicans with free food and drink. The Great Idol is the “best” leader yet cannot account for the missing 1.2 billion dollars as of November 9 2019. The Brilliant One allowed Ross University Medical School to run to Barbados, killing off half of the national economy and disappearing the biggest foreign investment in Dominica.  When we  criticize God’s Gift to Mankind for incompetence it is not hate. It is an objective assessment of a failed leader who has made Dominica a failed state.
Stooge # 4 – The Superficial Diaspora  Spectator Engaged in Supper Singing said:
Dominica’s roads have few potholes  nowadays and the supermarkets resemble those in America. On election day we must give him 5 more years.
The Patriot Answers:
Too many Dominicans in the Diaspora, often times under the influence of fire water and loud music, tend toward making the most superficial observations when they visit home. They forget that when their hangover wears off the sobering reality is that Dominica, after 15 years of scary leadership,   has a youth unemployment rate of more than 50%. Young graduates must flee the island to seek  employment. The agriculture sector is at the worst level in our recorded history as an independent nation; not one container of citrus  or bananas has been exported  to any traditional market in years, even before Hurricane Maria. All major agro industry entities such as Dominica Coconut Products or Bello are now dead, where not buried. Without a real economy, Dominica subsists off the barrels sent by generous Dominicans in the Diaspora and passport sales. To recover we must utilize our highly educated Dominican professionals at home and abroad to develop an advanced information technology sector, to create new income streams in a revitalized water and green energy oriented economy. We must learn that hard work and innovative planning will be the required tools to rebuild our agriculture and industry. Our Diaspora must help free Dominica from this dark night, not be hypocritical supporters of a failed system on Dominica that would not be acceptable in the countries they now call home.
Come December 6 2019 let us put the four stooges to bed by the administration of a resounding spanking. Let this election be one where the power of a citizenry educated to do patriotic duty is more powerful than silver and gold. In so doing we usher in a new dawn where  Dominicans, in sober acceptance of the requirements of nation building,  join hands and work hard  to make things better.

  1. Marshall Lawrence says:

Three stoves seem great, but, #4, not accurately interpreted. Practically, that one major link road around the country was referred, and not all roads. One or two new buildings ( supermarkets ), and a new wing at PMH. From what I understood, it was not an endorsement to the incumbent, but, a realization ( visual ), since it was nonexistent in 2015. Sometimes we misunderstand as we may be misunderstood.
