Oh dear, the long awaited spectacle is finally here! Joseph Isaac takes his seat as speaker of the House of Assembly, he now controls the chambers, so to speak! Notably one of his first dishonest and hypocritical acts is to applaud the former speaker Alix Boyd Knights as a very objective speaker.
They say a picture tells a 1000 words, but the pictures of Joseph Isaac’s angry and warlike demeanor tell a million. Pictures that say “Vengeance is mine now, and I am in charge.”
What could be going through his mind knowing that he betrayed the trust of everyone in the United Party to become Skerrit’s lapdog and gatekeeper. To replace Alix Boyd knight in humiliating them, and insulting them in the Parliament. If Joseph Issac has one iota of decency in him this must be tough for him?
Apparently, he has shown that he has none left, and probably never had any. Roosevelt Skerrit knows how to meticulously pick his characters, and in Roosevelt’s dark world Joseph Isaac scores at the very top, thus the reason Isaac is sitting in this chair. Let’s take them down memory lane a little bit.
In 2013 when Joseph Isaac joined the UWP, Skerrit was not very happy with him, he began attacking him from day one.Speaking at the commissioning of a filling station in Scotts Head Skerrit questioned those who criticize his social programs, in talking about Joseph Issac asked.
“How could you criticize us for helping a poor person with a home, how could you criticize us helping a child get to school through the provision of a school bus, how could you criticize that?”
Skerrit continued his onslaught, “And I am hearing all of them with interest in politics these days, enunciating all kinds of things but I am saying to them, especially those in the Roseau Central Constituency, that monies you owe anybody go and pay it first and then make yourself available to the people of Dominica.” Isaac said he would respond to the Skerrit’s remarks “at the appropriate time.” And yes there were many, many more episodes of insulting back and forth between Skerrit and Issac, up until the time of Issac’s defection. But oh, what a difference 5 years can make in a world of money, power and daggers.
You see, Roosevelt will dance with the devil to achieve his goals, Issac was a means to attaining the goal of undermining and destroying the United Workers Party to him.
After the electoral humiliation of Issac in the Roseau North constituency, Skerrit had an even more diabolical role for him. Make him Speaker of the House, let him continue the humiliation where Alix Boyd Knights left off. Perfect candidate! He has proven without a shadow of a doubt that he has no scruples, who better than him to hold that position?
Joseph Issac, the honorable speaker of the House, has had some runnings in the House with the speaker he knows applauds for objectivity too. Who can forget that infamous sitting when he told the speaker to “Shut up, I tell you, yes you shut up.” Why did he talk to her like that? Was it because she was being professional and objective?
Will Issac remember the insults hurled at him in Parliament by Reginald Austrie when the former speaker sat on her high chair and allowed it, and even enjoyed when Reginald Autrie addresses her saying. “Madam Speaker, the only person I know that can chouley a bakery is Joseph Issac? Or will he just pretend it never happened?
The speaker of the Honorable House, just like the presidency of Dominica are positions that should be held by honorable decent citizens, not by the unscrupulous, vindictive political mercenaries that occupy both of these noble offices currently, but this is what Dominica has come to, and all conscious, patriotic and decent citizens can be, is to sit back and enjoy the circus with the sincere hope that one day that circus will leave town.
