Dominica has been a relatively peaceful country. However ,recently some very disturbing trends have developed, such as lawlessness, and gangster culture embraced and romanticized by people in high offices. It has reached a dangerous level. Some call this phenomenon trickle down criminality, and it has become very apparent during this election season.
Now the thugs are in control of the city with authority from the top, they are so emboldened that even the official police officers are running scared. Some of us saw that coming. This is how a citizen describes what he noticed at Melissa’s launching:
He said there was an area which was blocked off by the Police and which they were given instructions not to allow any vehicular traffic through. He said the boys who hang out on the block by Charlo and River street (Melisia passie) were demanding to go through. They told the 5 police officers there that they were part of her motorcade.
Following instructions they received from the authorities, the police were refusing to allow the boys through and they started kicking the barricade to throw it down. The police said the fellars on the mic started calling the police damn ass and playing the recording where skerrit is saying he run things. The guys on the mic were also saying the same thing.
He said they eventually made the guys pass because they saw that a problem would ensue. The Police said the other police officers who were with him notice two inspectors standing about 70 ft away whilst this went on for a few minutes and they did nothing. They never moved or inquired to see what was happening.
The guy told me they were so embarrassed. He said the police force has come to nothing because gangsters from the streets, with the help of the authorities, are now running things in Dominica.
According to this eye report the subordinate officers were clearly intimidated and over ran by the gangs, what could have emboldened the gangs to that extent? I think we all know what the answer to that is, even if some of us will not dare to say it for obvious reasons.
Today, on November 10th 2019 , a few protesters gathered on the street in the entrance of the state house peacefully voicing their grievances in an attempt to seek redress from the president, who is constitutionally in control of the country since the house was dissolved last week.
Shortly after their arrival, there were men with machine guns, soldiers in bullet proof vests. Attorney Henry Shillingford was brutally attacked by a well known Roosevelt henchman known as Charlo. We have seen this before, but it is a new phenomenon which was introduced by Roosevelt Skerrit, as a means to instil fear into the populace and keep them in submission. Things are getting worryingly dangerous in Dominica.
These two are just the most recent occurrences, but there are many more documented ones, and observers are very worried that it will get worse, between the thugs employed by Melissa, and the rogue policemen employed by Roosevelt , and the people in the middle we don’t know what to expect, but it is a volatile situation. The people have decided that they will continue to speak for their democratic rights at the risk of death, and Roosevelt’s henchmen in the police force have shown their willingness to kill them.
We ask that those in authority with influence to help diffuse the very dangerous situation that is developing in our land to please step forward, we need cool heads to work towards justice and peace in Dominica. It is quite obvious who the inciters and provocateurs and they are not the people rightfully and peacefully seeking redress for their many grievances.
But where will these people come from since most of them are already compromised and under the spell of Roosevelt? We heard from the Bishop speaking in a very measured way which did not address the real issues, we see our so called influenced elites being apologists and defenders of the very wrong that the people are speaking to. Is there one person on earth Roosevelt listens to to advise him to put a top to this madness, and call off his attack dogs?
Roosevelt has defied every authority including the Bishop who in January advised him to move with alacrity to implement the reforms that the people have been asking for since 2008. We do not want political violence in our land, we hope and pray that it does not happen, but if it does the blood will be on the hands on Roosevelt Skerrit and his enablers.
