DID PETER WICKHAM THROW DOMINICA A FOUL BALL ?

A search of Peter’s  background reveals that he is a Political Consultant, and the Principal Director of the leading Caribbean Political Research Company, Caribbean Development Research Services (CADRES). This organisation conducts political polls and research and has worked with several major political parties and governments throughout the Caribbean. However those who are aware of what’s going on in the Caribbean can conclude that most of his work is done for Labor party organizations .

We know that Peter Wickham is a close associate of Hartley Henry, Roosevelt’s Barbadian political strategist, they both work for Roosevelt Skerrit and the Labor party and have been deeply involved in the past three elections cycles and are currently involved in the forth.

Despite Wickham’s claim to be independent reasonable thinking people are not convinced that he is. It is a known fact that Wickham has been involved in defending Roosevelt, and getting involved in Dominica’s political affair for instance when Roosevelt said earlier that “He Runs Things In Dominica”

“A much ado about nothing”. That’s how prominent pollster Peter Wickham is describing the reaction to the statement by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit that  “I run things in Dominica”. Wickham defended him by saying the statement was “Much Ado about Nothing”

In 2012 ,Wickham was the featured speaker at the labor Party delegates conference where he advised the labor party Government in Dominica to use its parliamentary strength and the large chunk of political support it obtained from the electorate in the 2009 general election to change “outdated” laws, and work towards greater transparency.

It should be concerning to Wickham that the lack of transparency in the Labor party Government is one of the biggest issues with the Dominican people, he must have heard about the biggest of them all the $1.2 missing billions that Roosevelt has not accounted for, and will not tell the Dominican people what happened to it.

It was also of great concern that Wickham in his press conference perpetuated the labor party false narrative when asked about the need for electoral reform. He said that this is a non issue since the UWP were not interested in such reforms because they have an injunction on the process- VERY FALSE!

To the polls itself, it appeared that Wickham did not sound or look as confident as he usually does this time. I am sure he was hoping that Dominicans would just accept what he told them without questioning. WRONG!

First  wickham tells us that, that the outcome of the upcoming general election could be determined by the significant number of uncertain voters borne out by his poll.

According to that poll he reported at a press conference held on November 21st 2019, “37% of respondents said that they were committed to voting for the DLP, while 30% expressed their commitment to vote for the UWP. 1% said “another party” which the pollsters are presuming “spoke to a political entity which did not materialize on nomination day.”

Then he went on to assume that the 26% which did not answer his question would lean towards labor because of the voting behaviour of this “Uncertain” group which has admittedly conveyed some sense of their support by virtue of their Prime Ministerial preference.” Is he also assuming that this group was uncertain because they refused to answer? Do we know why they didn’t answer? Is it for the same reason they want to participate in meetings and protests, but they are afraid?

Those of us who talk to these people who refused to answer Wickham’s polling questions know why they didn’t answer, and it is not quite accurate to assume that they will naturally vote for Roosevelt! It also appears that Wickham conducted his polls based on the popularity of Linton and Skerrit and not on individual candidates. Did he? Why?

Wickham apparently made no provisions for the change of attitude, and quest for change that is on the island because of the last three years of back to back scandals that have plagued Roosevelt’s labor party, especially the disappearance of the $1.2B that the people are still awaiting answers for.

It is fair for us to now assume that Wickham is having some backroom talk with Roosevelt, because he must know that his valiant effort to make his polling appear to be favorable to Roosevelt was a long shot!  Dominicans are not buying it Wickham, not this time! We await the Caribbean Agency for Political Advancement “CAPA” polls!
